Lukashenko told how Belarus was “thrown” with Soviet rubles

MOSCOW, May 31 - RIA Novosti. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that his country was “thrown” with Soviet rubles.
He spoke about this at a meeting with the leaders of the constitutional courts of foreign states participating in the international forum of constitutional law in Minsk.
Responding to accusations of authoritarianism, Lukashenko referred to the fact that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Belarusians were “left alone”.

In addition, he said, Belarus was promised that it would remain in the Soviet ruble system .
“Then they threw us with these rubles, taking goods from us and not paying for them,” Belarus quoted Lukashenko as saying.

The Belarusian leader explained that after this, the country had a difficult economic situation, when "there was nothing for the people to eat."

Therefore, after the collapse of the USSR, the legal system of Belarus was aimed at strengthening the vertical of power, Lukashenko continued.

“In a hungry country, the main right was to feed and clothe people,” he stressed, adding that the main factor is time, and there are no differences between Minsk and the East in matters of law and democracy.
